Show Gears Support
Add the Supports Gears badge to your mod's pages, and describe your mod's use of Gears so players know whether they need to install it.
Tell players that your mod uses Gears on your mod's download page and in its README. They learn that the mod has a settings page in the game's Mods menu, and whether they need to install Gears to use it.
This page covers the Supports Gears badge, where to put it, and how to describe your mod's use of Gears.
The Supports Gears badge

The badge is a 1000 × 155 PNG with a transparent background. It is a single line, so it fits in a header or beside other badges. Use it at this URL, or save a copy and upload it with your mod's other images:
https://s7092910.github.io/Gears/images/Supports-Gears-badge.pngWhen you use the badge:
- Scale it evenly. Set only the width and let the height follow, such as 400 × 62 or 500 × 78.
- Show it at least 300 pixels wide. Below that, the gears and lettering are hard to make out.
- Do not crop it, recolor it, or add to it.
- Place it on any background. Its lettering has a light edge and a shadow, so it reads on both dark and light pages.
- Put it where players look for requirements, such as the top of your description or a requirements section.
- Link it to the Gears page on Nexus Mods, so players can install Gears from it.
Add the badge to your mod's pages
Nexus Mods
Nexus Mods descriptions use BBCode. Paste this where you want the badge to appear:
[url=https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/4017][img]https://s7092910.github.io/Gears/images/Supports-Gears-badge.png[/img][/url]If Gears is required, also add it under Requirements on your mod's page, so Nexus Mods lists it as a dependency.
GitHub README
Markdown shows the badge at full size. Use HTML to set a smaller width. Set only width, so the
badge keeps its shape:

</a>Describe how your mod uses Gears
Say plainly whether players need Gears. Whether they do depends on how you built your mod. See Keep Gears optional.
| Your mod | What to write |
|---|---|
| Gears is required | "Requires Gears. Install Gears to use this mod and change its settings in the Mods menu." |
| Gears is optional | "Supports Gears. Install Gears to change this mod's settings in the Mods menu. Without Gears, the mod uses its default settings." |
Check the optional wording against your mod before you use it. A mod that reads its settings only in XML patches loses the patches that read a setting when Gears is absent. See Read Settings in XML Patches.
Tell players what they can change, not only that there are settings. For example: "Change the loot multiplier and the horde night length from the Mods menu."
If your mod has world settings, say so. A world setting is set per world by the host, and players can't change it while that world is running. Every player in a multiplayer game needs Gears, and so does the server. For details a player may need, link to Gears for Players.
Language to use and avoid
- Write "Gears" with a capital G. Don't use "GEARS" in prose. The all-capitals form is only for the badge.
- Use "supports Gears" or "uses Gears for its settings." Don't write "powered by Gears" or "built on Gears." Gears provides the settings page, not your mod's features.
- Don't describe your mod as official, endorsed, or reviewed by Gears.
- Don't promise that Gears adds anything beyond the settings page.
Add screenshots of your settings page
A screenshot of your settings page shows players what they can change before they download. Capture your mod's page in the Mods menu with the setting descriptions visible. For a mod with world settings, also capture the Mods World Settings screen. Open it from the Mods tab of the New Game screen.
If your mod declares a <Banner> in its ModInfo.xml, Gears shows it at the top of your settings
page. Use your own mod's banner there, not the Supports Gears badge. See
Check your ModInfo.xml.
List your mod on the Mod Showcase
The Mod Showcase page on the Gears site lists mods that use Gears. To add yours, see Join the Mod Showcase.
